Most virtual reality games don’t look all that appealing. While there are unique settings out there, the quality of renderings leaves a lot to be desired. XIng: The Land Beyond is a welcome change in this regard. This classic puzzle and adventure game does a lot of things extremely well. Thanks to its strong narrative and the easy controls, there is nothing to dislike about this game for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.
XING: The Land Beyond is Incredibly Beautiful
Being transported to the afterlife is a rather unsettling experience for a lot of players. Especially when this occurs in virtual reality, as it creates a very realistic experience In XING: The Land Beyond, this is the main objective of the game. Players need to explore the afterlife, listen to other people’s tales, and learning from other’s experiences. This is by far one of the more emotional narratives we have seen in virtual reality to date, and it is executed extremely well.
Although the game itself can be played without VR support as well, it does provide an extra edge to the overall experience. Visually speaking, both games simply look fantastic regardless of the mode one plays in. However, a good-looking game would still be worthless if the controls are terrible. Thankfully, the game handles this quite well on every single platform, which is a nice touch. Even interacting with objects feels solid, as players don’t have to bend forward to do so.
Moving around in XING: The Land Beyond is done through pointing in a direction This may take some time to get used to at first, but no one should experience simulator sickness by any means. It is evident the game is designed for players of all ages and the developers certainly check all of the right boxes in this regard. Plus, the variety of puzzles and exploration is more than worth checking out as well. Nothing is overly difficult by any means, but it is a very compelling experience overall regardless.
We find it interesting to fault the game for anything, really. It is true some control elements related to movement may take a few tries, but nothing is overly frustrating by any means. The story is interesting, the game is optimized for VR< and the graphics are top notch. XING: The Land Beyond is well worth checking out, especially considering how it provides several hours of gameplay. Plus, it may be worth to replay the game now and then as well.
