When we were initially introduced to Pavlov VR, we weren’t too sure what to expect from this particular game. It turns out there is a lot more to this game than the name would suggest. More specifically, it is all about blazing guns and killing both NPCs and other players in an interesting setting. The game is currently available for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift for the price of $9.99. A game well worth picking up, as it offers a lot of fun content as long as the multiplayer community remains intact.
Pavlov VR is More fun Than Expected
Although there are many different shooters on VR already, there is always room for games which offer something more innovative. Pavlov VR certainly belongs in this category, even though the deathmatch-style approach is nothing new in the genre by any means. There is also a search and destroy mode to check out, which is by far the most competitive gameplay element. What makes this game so great is the fast respawn timer, focus on tactical elements, and intense encounters. It is definitely one of the most engaging and competitive shooters we have played in recent years.
As one would expect from Pavlov VR, there are plenty of weapons to choose from. The usual suspects include grenades, knives, assault rifles, shotguns, and everything else that fits this gameplay. The developers ensured every weapon wields slightly differently and provides a different experience altogether. At the same time, it requires a high degree of concentration to perform under pressure. Just like it would be in the real world, although still far less complicated.
There are two different ways of moving around in Pavlov VR. Using the touchpad of your VR headset is one option, but there is also teleportation. In our opinion, touchpad controls work a lot better, but your mileage may vary. Both options will take some time getting used to, though, but it never gets frustrating. It will start to feel intuitive after a few games, after which you will quickly “pwn some nubz”. One downside is how the game doesn’t look visually impressive, but it’s not bad either. It does the job well for this type of game, which is all people can ask for.
There are still some minor flaws while the game is in Early Access. Graphical glitches still occur, although far less frequently. Your belt’s ammo seems to have a will of its own and moves around now and then, which is a bit annoying. Plus, there are only a handful of maps to choose from. At the same time, everyone can see the potential Pavlov VR brings to the table. It is one of the best VR FPS experiences to date, and the developers are still working on future improvements as we speak.
