Settlers of Catan is one of the most popular tabletop games in the world. As such, it’s not surprising to learn there is a VR version available. Owners of the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR can all enjoy Catan VR for the price of $14.99. It is also available on the Samsung Gear VR.

Catan VR is Absolutely Wonderful

Although it remained unclear if Catan VR would effectively check all of the right boxes, we are pleasantly surprised. It is worth mention players need to get acquainted with the rules, which can be accessed from within the game. The VR version plays like the real deal, as four players are pitted against one another.

The game itself puts you inside a hostel near a table on which the Catan board game is displayed. Animations are visible to add some more immersion, which is a nice touch. You can play against random NPCs or with friends of strangers. Online gaming will yield the best overall experience,  assuming there are enough people effectively buying and playing the game.

As one would come to expect, all of the trademark aspects of Catan are present in the VR version. The game plays like the real deal, but in a virtual setting. You can also chat with other players, as voice chat is enabled by default. For fans of the original game, or those looking to get a strategic board game under their belt, Catan VR checks all of the right boxes.

Visually, the game is absolutely amazing. The overall theme is medieval, as one would come to expect. It is fun, friendly for both veteran and novice players, and extremely immersive. Especially for the price, one cannot complain about Catan VR whatsoever. Definitely worth picking up, that much is evident.
