High Noon VR Review – The Best Western-style Shooter Available Today

The number of VR shooter games is slowly getting out of hand. This is by far one of the more oversaturated markets in the VR gaming industry today. As such, we had no real expectations for High Noon VR. At the same time, the western setting and proper gunplay seemed appealing enough to give it a try. It’s not exactly the game most people would expect, but for the price of $9.99, there is nothing to dislike as an owner of either the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift.

High Noon VR is Funny and Engaging

One thing that becomes obvious right off the bat is how this is not a wave shooter in a western setting. In fact, it has the best gunplay we have seen in a VR game of this genre so far. Great action combined with excellent dialogue, excellent graphics, and a way to upgrade your weaponry make for an excellent title. It almost makes no sense you can pick this game up for under 10 bucks, but we aren’t complaining in the slightest. There are some negative aspects too, but we’ll get to these later.

Fans of the spaghetti western genre will immediately take a liking to High Noon VR. It is evident this game doesn’t take itself seriously whatsoever, which only makes it even more enjoyable. Your goal is to take out a wide variety of enemies, ranging from outlaws to villains, bosses, and women. Not all of these enemies need to be killed via gunplay, as you can interact with the environment to cause havoc as well. Creative killing is an option well worth checking out when playing this game.

Throughout the game, you will earn a native currency which can be used to buy new weapons. There is a wide range of goodies to choose from, although we recommend avoiding dynamite, as it feels obsolete. The harpoon gun, on the other hand, is rather satisfying. While a western town has no whales to shoot, it is a weapon just like any other in this game. It is a great weapon to get creative with as well, but we will let you experience that for yourself. All controls in the game work just fine and only add to the experience overall.

Some flaws in this game come in the audio department. It seems some dialogues are cut short unexpectedly, and the voices may become repetitive after a while. Other than that, there is nothing but fun to be had while playing High Noon VR. For this price, there is no reason not to buy the game whatsoever, as no one will regret their purchase. We would love to see more games like this in the future, as they certainly raise the bar for other shooters.
